Efter Danish metal awards, som jag skrivit om tidigare, gjorde jag en kort intervju med Mikkel Wad Larsen, projektledare för tillställningen. Då intervjun pga platsbrist inte kommer hamna i Close-Up så lägger jag upp den här.
• Could you give some short info about the arranging organisation/s behind the awards?
The Danish Metal Awards is a organization consisting of music professionals. Promoters, Label people, production companies and members of the press. The show celebrated their fifth anniversary this year and has obtained a key role in danish culture. In many ways we have accived our original set of goals, namely being an important promotional platform and export platform for Danish Metal Music.
• Do you have collaboration with Danish tv/radio/press? Are they enthusiastic and supportive, or are they ignoring the scene?
We have an extensive set of media partnerships in the DMeA camp. “Sort Søndag”- Danish P3s Metal show, GAFFA – DKs biggest music magazine, Danishmetal.dk. Metalzone.dk. Thorough out the years we have worked with Myspace Denmark, MTV Denmark and many others. In the early years it was very hard to get noticed in Danish Media, but because the event has become so successful, Danish Metal – and metal in general is gaining more and more awareness.
• How has the existence of DMeA helped the Danish metal scene?
The show only exists because of the strong Danish scene. We built the whole concept of DMeA as being a place to celebrate and nurture the growing Danish scene.
• Danish metal scene isn’t as flourishing as the scene in Sweden and Germany. That’s at least my impression. Would you agree about this? And if yes, what is the reason behind it?
Sweden has always been a lot bigger in metal then Denmark. What has happened in Denmark the last ten years, has been going on in Sweden the last 25 years. So we are still behind you guys – but we are getting there!
As for Germany. Well I would say we are in a way better state then them. Actually Germany has been one of the key importers of Danish Metal. Bands like Hatesphere, Mercenary, As We Fight, Illdisposed and others have toured there many times and with great success.
• Please mention a few underrated Danish metal bands that aren’t well known outside the country but in your opinion deserve to be.
I definatly have some bands I feel are greatly underappreciated. The Psyke Project, As We Fight, Mnemic are defiantly some of them.
